Shane’s Story: Getting back on the roads after a stroke

Shane attended our Colchester centre this month, after he was referred to us by the DVLA. He had a stroke 2 years ago, suffering from residual difficulties in his right arm. He hasn’t driven since but now felt he was ready to return to driving.

Shane remarked: “The way I felt before the assessment was a bit nervous because I had not been behind a steering wheel for two years now. After five minutes of driving, I felt like I’d never left the wheel.” The in-car assessment showed that Shane could return to driving through using a left mounted steering spinner, which enables him to drive using only his left arm.

Shane commented that: “The assessment was brilliant! The two ladies that took me out were amazing. At first, we spent some time in the office while I did my visual testing and coordination, they were friendly and sympathetic towards me. I am enthusiastic to get back to driving and the two ladies’ put me at ease, they are brilliant! All the best to them, Thanks very much”

Congratulations Shane! We wish you all the best with your future driving.
